Charleville & District RFC 10 – UL Bohemians 26

There is nothing more you can ask of a team but to give everything you’ve  got to the cause and leave nothing behind on the pitch. Although Charleville & District boys didn’t get the result they wanted, they were not found wanting in the effort to get it.

Going into the break after the first period 5-12 down after their relentless efforts were finally rewarded with and excellent team score in the minute before the break, hopes were high that the boys could make the ambush of Shandrum stick in the next period. 

Unfortunately, a couple of break away scores from UL Bohs 13 when camped on their line were the difference in the end, giving a scoreline that did not reflect the competitive and incredibly close margin between the teams. Indeed, with a more consistent adjudication of the breakdown, Charleville boys’ edge in the turnover department would likely have led to a very different result.

The opposition coaches were effusive in their praise of the Charleville Boys, remarking on the incredible progress they have made since their first encounter and the greater proportion of the group being twelve year olds. Their parting words were, “You’ll have a hell of a team there next season!”….

We have an incredible team this year. Next year will just be the gravy over the spuds!

The experience of the day is valuable to the boys as they go into their final pool game away to Thomond/Richmond next Sunday. Win that and they are still in the mix for the playoffs.
